Bacon Escape is a cute take on the endless runner genre. The player controls a farm animal as he escapes from prison in a railroad cart. The player moves the animal (a pig to begin with) over a railroad track with obstacles, jumps, and loops. The player navigates the track with various different taps (like a quick tap versus a tap and hold). They can also earn and collect achievements, different animals, and different carts. The game contains ads and in app purchases. The ESRB rated Bacon Escape E for Everyone and we stand by this rating. Kids 8 years and older will get the most of the working memory and self-control practice the game offers.
Bacon Escape helps kids practice and improve the following skills:
Managing our actions, feelings, and behaviors.
Bacon Escape requires the player to use their self-control cognitive thinking skills by thinking about the future. There are many obstacles and even different paths on the track. The player needs to be aware of what is coming up and be prepared for whatever obstacles are just ahead. If the player focuses only on the present (the obstacle right in front of them), then they won't have enough time to react and will crash the escape cart. This will keep them from earning achievements, gaining coins, and unlocking new characters and carts.
Recalling and retaining information in our minds while working.
Bacon Escape has several different categories of obstacles that the player must avoid. They are organized by color (blue, red, purple, etc) and each color has a different way to avoid or counter the obstacle. Because of this set up, the player gets the perfect opportunity to practice improving their forgetfulness: they must remember what each color means and how to neutralize it. If they don't, they will crash repeatedly and fail to advance in the game. They will also find that they are not finishing achievements or collecting new people or carts.
