Bakery Story is a relatively interactive idle game where the players take on the role of the owner of their own bakery and has to run the bakery on their own. You are tasked with making as much money as you can to upgrade your bakery, and you make money by baking goods for customers to eat. However, each baked good takes a different amount of time to bake, so you must be careful you don’t leave them for too long because they will spoil.

Not only can you make money through your customers buying your baked goods, you can also make money through goals. Players can click the clipboard to open their goals and see which ones they want to complete. Goals consist of baking certain goods, selling a certain amount of goods, and buying certain decorations in the shop. Once completed, you earn more XP to level up to unlock more decorations and available ovens, and you also earn more money!

More XP allows you to level up, and gaining levels unlocks the ability to expand your bakery, buy more ovens to bake more goods, and more decorations. To level up faster and to make the most money, you have to bake as many goods as you can, and make sure you have lots of tables and chairs so no customers are turned away at the door when the bakery is full. So it’s important to pack your bakery with ovens, tables and chairs, and counters in order to move on!

Bakery Story helps kids practice and improve the following skills:

Planning: Developing a systematic approach for setting and achieving goals.

Baking things in Bakery Story takes time. For example, in the game, chocolate cookies take 5 minutes to break, blueberry muffins take 15 minutes to bake, chocolate cake takes an hour to bake, and peach cobbler takes 3 hours to bake. Even a chocolate tart takes 1 day to bake. Also, once the baking is done, you only have a certain amount of time to put the baked goods on the counter before they spoil. This requires planning. Being aware of how long each baked good takes to bake and making sure that when it is finished in 15 minutes, an hour, or 24 hours, you have to check your Bakery Story app and put those baked goods on the counters.

Another way that this game uses the planning skill is with goals. Goals need to be completed within a certain amount of time, and goals take time to complete. If you know that you want to complete a certain goal, you have to plan ahead and make sure you have enough time to complete the goal before the deadline.

Organization: Arranging and coordinating materials in order to complete a task.

Organization is an important aspect of this game even if it is not obvious. The way your bakery is set up is critical to how many people can eat at your bakery, which is directly related to how much money your bakery can make. You want as many tables and chairs as possible for your customers, but you have to include room for the customers to walk to the chairs. While you want to cram as many tables and chairs as possible, keep in mind that they have to have a path to get to those tables and chairs. This requires organization. It is also important to have plenty of counters, so that you have somewhere to store all of the baked goods you are making. This also requires organization, because you have to make sure that you don’t have any counters blocking the way of your customers.
