Marvel Snap is an online CCG (Collectible Card Game) where the player creates decks of cards featuring Marvel characters. They can then use these decks to battle other players online to increase their ranking and to earn in-game currency. The player faces off against an opponent in an attempt to win the majority of points on three distinct playing fields. Whoever has the most points on each location wins that location. The player has six turns to take over as many of the locations as possible by using their deck’s unique combination of cards.

The player must use energy to “pay” for the cards to be played on each location. The player starts with one energy and this amount increases with each turn, where it maxes out at six energy. The player must balance the cost of their cards with their abilities in order to play as many cards as possible while also maintaining a control over as many locations as they can.

The game also features a “snap” function which can increase or decrease the player’s ranking. At the beginning of each match, there is one cube floating over the playfield. If either player is confident in their ability to win the match, they can click on this cube to “snap,” or increase the number of cubes. This can be done until the total number of cubes reaches eight. If the game is played until the last turn, the winner takes all eight cubes and has them added to their total rank. The loser’s rank will then decrease by eight cubes. If the player does not want to lose their ranking, they can always back out of a match and take less of a hit to their ranking.

When a player earns in-game currency, they can use this to upgrade their cards. The upgrades then earn the player points towards their Collection Rank which can in turn be used to win new cards and other currency to improve other cards.

Marvel Snap is free to play, but in-app purchases are available. The game is  rated differently on iOS and Google Play, so parents should take this into consideration when deciding whether this game is appropriate for their child.

Marvel Snap helps kids practice and improve the following skills:

Planning: Developing a systematic approach for setting and achieving goals.

There are several ways in which a player needs to be able to use their planning skills to succeed in Marvel Snap. When the player is constructing their decks of cards, they must look at each card’s individual abilities and take into account how they will work with the other cards in the deck. The player must also plan out how the cost of these cards will be spread out, given that the player will only have a small amount of energy that gradually builds up with each turn.

The player then needs to plan out how they plan to spend their in-game currency. If the player does not want to spend actual money on Marvel Snap, they will need to plan out carefully how much it costs to upgrade their cards and look at how much currency they have from their previous battles.

Flexibility: Adapting and adjusting to changing conditions and expectations.

In order to successfully make it through a battle in Marvel Snap, the player needs to be able to use their flexibility skills in a variety of ways.

Players need to use their flexibility when initially building their deck. Being able to choose cards for the type of deck that you want requires branching and looking at new abilities, even if they are cards you have not used yet or are characters you are not as familiar with.

Flexibility also comes in handy when the player needs to adjust their playing style based on what is occurring in real-time. Sometimes a new location will be revealed on the board that will not work with a card in your hand. The player needs to use their flexibility skills in this moment and choose a different card to play at that location or play their chosen card in a different place on the board.
