Pet World: My Animal Shelter is a simulation game where the player is an intern working at an animal rescue shelter. Animals come into the shelter every day and you need to take care of them by correctly assessing their health, feeding them, cleaning their cages, and providing them with grooming and exercise opportunities.

When an animal comes into the shelter, you will notice something about their health which needs to be addressed. The player will need to correctly determine what appropriate action to take and then begin to care for the animal. A chart with care levels can be accessed to show the player everything about the animal, from weight to grooming, to happiness. These levels change based on how you care for the animal, so the player needs to be constantly checking up on each animal in the shelter to make sure they are as happy and healthy as possible.

Visitors will occasionally come to the shelter with specific needs and requests for the type of pet that they want. Your job is to look at their requests and then compare them with the animals you currently have in the shelter in order to make a match.

Pet World: My Animal Shelter is available for free on iOS and Android. Some features require in-app purchases.

Pet World: My Animal Shelter helps kids practice and improve the following skills:

Self-Awareness: Adjusting to the needs and agendas of other people.

Being aware of the needs of others is a core component to Pet World: My Animal Shelter. The player needs to match families with their perfect pet and this requires some listening skills as well. Looking at what each family is asking for and comparing this with the animals that are currently available is necessary in order to match the animals with an appropriate family. For players who struggle with listening to others and adjusting based on the needs of other people, this game can be a great way to practice this skill in a small, low stakes environment.

Organization: Organizing and managing one’s own environment and possessions.

There are many different tasks that need to be completed every day in the animal shelter and the player needs to use organizational skills to successfully complete them. The player needs to check on every animal, look at their notes to assess their health and happiness levels, and then go about feeding, cleaning, and grooming them to maintain their comfort and care. For players who struggle with organization, there is a brief tutorial at the beginning of the game that will help you learn how to care for the animals before you begin your actual job at the shelter.
