Cooking Mama Cuisine is the latest entry in the Cooking Mama series of culinary simulation games. In this Apple Arcade exclusive, you once again play a chef who is learning to make various recipes under the supervision of Mama. In this game, you are given a set of ingredients to choose from as well as a set of cooking implements. When you have chosen a set of ingredients and appliances that match, a recipe will be provided for you to cook. The game will guide you through the process of making the food, whether it is tearing cabbage leaves, frying a steak, or mixing ingredients in a bowl. The player uses the touch screen controls to interact with the different ingredients and has to complete the task within the set amount of time.
The level of success you have is measured by whether or not you completed the task within the time limit, and how well you were able to do so. At the end of each task, you are awarded between one and three stars; these are factored into the recipe’s final score when you are done cooking. Doing a good job with cooking and completing recipes will unlock even more ingredients for recipes, as well as decor and outfits for Mama to wear.
Cooking Mama is, at the time of this writing, exclusively for Apple Arcade, a subscription service available through iOS devices.
Flexibility: Trying something new.
Every recipe in the game is discovered by choosing a random variety of ingredients and seeing what you can create. This means that the player needs to use their flexibility skills and be willing to choose ingredients that are different from what they would normally choose, even if they are items they would not eat in real life. Without this flexibility, the player may not be able to unlock all of the recipes in the game and will find themselves repeating the same cooking techniques over and over again.
Time Management: Working under pressure.
Most of the challenges in Cooking Mama Cuisine are timed, meaning the player needs to have the ability to work under pressure. Whether you are pan searing a steak, adjusting the temperature on an oven, or peeling carrots, the number of stars you earn at the end of the preparation will depend on how well you were able to execute the task within the time limit. For players who struggle with time management, they may find that they need to cook certain recipes a few times before they are able to move on. The game will begin with fewer ingredients and recipes so it will be easy for the player to practice this skill before moving on to more complex recipes with multiple ingredients.
