Neko Atsume: Kitty Collector is an idle game where you are the owner of a home that is sadly cat-free. By putting out various food and playthings, you attract cats to your yard, take photos of them, and receive fish gifts that can be used to purchase other items to attract more cats.

Each cat that visits has their own personality and items and food that they prefer. There are even rare cats that will come to visit you if you have the correct items out in your yard or home.

When a cat is done visiting your yard, they will leave you a fish gift. These can be either regular fish or special “gold” fish. The items that you can purchase require one type of fish or the other. In addition to food and item purchasing, you can also pay to increase the space in your yard, gain access to the house and even change the style of your home.

When the cats are visiting, you can open the app’s camera function and take pictures of them while they play or sleep. Each cat’s album page can hold up to 18 photos and can also be turned into wallpaper for the player’s phone.

Neko Atsume is free to download but certain features require in-app purchases. It is available for free also with a subscription to Apple Arcade.

Neko Atsume: Kitty Collector helps kids practice and improve the following skills:

Self-Control: Identifying activities to improve response inhibition

Neko Atsume: Kitty Collector is a relaxing game where all you are required to do is watch cats nap, play, and eat. It can be used as a relaxation app or as a way to just quick check in when you are feeling frustrated or overwhelmed. These types of apps can be used to regulate emotions or prevent undesirable reactions to situations because they provide a brief and relaxing outlet to the situation at hand without being too time consuming or addictive. Simply checking in on cats for a few minutes every day can be what some people need to refocus their attention or divert negative behavior into something more positive.

Planning: Planning for future goals and long term projects.

The currency you use to purchase items in the game is given to you by the cats as they leave your yard/home. Cats will give you either regular fish or special golden ones that you collect when you open the app. Because it can take a long time to accumulate these fish, the player needs to use their planning skills to determine which food/items/upgrades they want to prioritize over others. Some rare cats will only visit if you have the items they like, so planning to have these items available also requires making sure you have the correct amount of fish needed to purchase them.
