NBA 2K12 is a basketball game that lets players pick their favorite NBA team and play against the computer or other players in a variety of game modes. Players can choose to play a Quick Game (where the goal is to win a normal game of basketball) or decide to manage a team in the Build a Dynasty Mode. This mode offers an in-depth simulation that lets players make adjustments to their team through trading players and college recruitment. Players can also choose to download the Legends Showcase, which offers an expanded roster of basketball greats. Be A Star Mode lets players create their own athlete, guiding this character from the beginning to the end of his career. A competitive online mode is also available, which allows players to compete against each other online in teams of five. Due to the lack of violence and moderately easy controls, NBA2K is recommended to players ages 8 and up.

THIS GAME IS GOOD FOR KIDS WHO NEED HELP WITH:

Self-Control

Managing our actions, feelings and behaviors. Improving impulse control.

It is important for players to not get carried away when playing NBA 2K12, and to take their time when shooting the ball. Players need to press down on the right control stick to prepare for a shot, and then press up to release the ball. This takes a level of precision, and if players do not carefully time the release of the ball, their chances of missing the hoop will increase. Players who rush or get flustered by the fast action of the game will struggle, and should instead take enough time to steady the shot and release the ball at the top of the jump. Players that release the ball too soon or too late will either hit the rim or miss the hoop entirely.

Additionly, overly aggressive players will often be hit with penalties for breaking the rules of the game. It is important not to foul an opponent by coming in contact when stealing, or perform goal-tending by intercepting shots after the ball is in travel. Players that exercise restraint while playing reduce their chances of earning penalties, and will perform better in the game overall.

Time Management

Being efficient and aware of our use of time and effort. Estimating time and meeting deadlines.

Players will need to pay close attention to the clock during the game, using it to the best of their advantage. If players are ahead on points, and there is still plenty of time left in the game, they may want to substitute better players for worse ones, so that their all-stars don't run the risk of getting injured or earning penalties. If behind on points, and time is running out, players may want to adapt their play style, going for more three point shots to make up for the deficit. Paying attention to how much time is left in a game is an important aspect for staying ahead in points, or making up for lost time.

Organization

Arranging and coordinating materials in order to complete a task.

While playing Build a Dynasty mode, players must manage money and organize their team wisely. Players that budget money can sign good players to appropriate contracts, recruit newcomers from college, and trade athletes that are no longer needed. In addition to managing funds, players will have to track the fatigue of different athletes, and swap them out when they are too tired to compete. By organizing every aspect of the team, players can keep their athletes happy, which in turn causes them to play to the best of their abilities.
