In Sunbirds the player taps and holds on the screen to make a bird rise, fall, and glide against the backdrop of a beautiful sky. The player must avoid obstacles such as giant balloon-like spheres and can also earn power-ups like extra birds to shoot at obstacles that completely block the path. The player receives points for various actions, as well as losing points for hitting obstacles. They receive coins based on the number of points they earn in any given level. Coins can be used for purchasing new levels.
The game has in-app ads and purchases available. The ESRB rated Sunbirds E for Everyone. LW4K stands by this rating.
Sunbirds helps kids practice and improve the following skills:
Getting started and then maintaining attention and effort to tasks.
In this game, the bird rises and falls relatively quickly. This means that the player has to maintain focus through the entire level. They cannot let internal or external distractions grab their attention or they will easily crash into the top or bottom of the screen or one of the obstacles. If this happens, they will not get enough coins to buy new levels and will eventually run out of levels. However, because each level is relatively short, the player only needs to use their short-term focus skills. If they do, they can stay on top of the individual levels and make good progress.
Being efficient and aware of our use of time and effort.
Time management, specifically keeping pace, is also important to this game. If the player doesn't pay attention to how quickly the bird rises and falls, or how long it takes for one of the extra birds to reach its target, they will not be able to finish levels without losing points or crashing completely. And if the player isn't making a good amount of points, they will be unable to earn a good amount of coins.
