Merge Dragons is a game of dragons and strategy. The idea is that the player can merge items to produce bigger and better objects. The player does levels and builds a camp, merging items and, consequently, bringing life back to the world of dragons. Each level also has quests that require the player to think in a way similar to a chess game.

There are in-app purchases. The game got an E10+ rating for infrequent or mild cartoon or fantasy violence. A player needs to be able to read the quests, so LW4K recommends this app for children 10 and older.

Merge Dragons helps kids practice and improve the following skills:

Merge DragonsOrganization

Arranging and coordinating materials in order to complete a task.

Every level of Merge Dragons has a limited amount of space. It is also more efficient to merge five of one item (rather than three). These two things combined mean that Merge Dragons is the perfect game to practice organizing places and things. If the player doesn't keep each level organized, they will run out of space or end up accidentally merging items before they are ready to. This can result in lower scores, less treasure, and even ending a level before the player has received all three stars.

Planning

Developing a systematic approach for setting and achieving goals.

Merge Dragons starts with several easy tutorial levels. The further the player gets in the game, however, the more planning is necessary to earn all three stars. Some quests, such as ones requiring the player to merge items to heal super dead land, will require carefully thought out plans to achieve. This problem solving is similar to the problem solving experienced in chess, where the player plans out their moves several steps in advance. If the player does not do this, they will be unable to finish quests and earn stars, which carry money, materials, and other prizes.

Reading

Because of the heavy reliance on tutorials and quests, Merge Dragons provides the player plenty of opportunity to practice reading and reading comprehension. The majority of the reading is in small snippets, but if the player cannot read them, it will result in them missing out on stars and prizes because they won't be able to complete the quests or will have missed out on some helpful tips.
