Make Match is a puzzle game where you drag and drop cube shaped animals onto one another to create new and unique animal matches. The player is trying to track down all the animals who have been lost by moving around on a map. In order to find new animals, they have to find a certain amount of the animals already in their possession. By combining two like animals, a new one is created. For example, dragging and dropping two chickens onto one another creates a lizard. Two lizards create a fox, and so on. The player needs to keep making combinations of animals until the required amounts for that level are met. The grid on which the animals are placed has a flag at the top. If matches are not made effectively, the animal cubes will touch the flag and the level needs to be started over.

By moving through levels, the player earns rewards that can help them clear levels, such as hammers and magic wands. A star rating is assigned to each level as well, letting the player know how effective they were at making their matches.

Make Match is a free-to-play game that is available now on iOS.

Make Match helps kids practice and improve the following skills:

Working Memory: Recalling and retaining information in our minds while working.

In Make Match, the player creates new animals by combining two other animals that are the same. This animal can then be combined with another like animal to create another new animal and so on. To do this, the player needs to remember what combinations create which animals while they are playing the game. This requires them to be able to keep this information in their head while they are trying to get the required number of matches they need to clear the level. For players who struggle with Working Memory, they can click on the “goal animals” and see what combinations lead to their creation. They can also start at a beginning level and play around with combinations until they have memorized what animals can be created from which combinations.

Planning: Developing a systematic approach for setting and achieving goals.

Each level in Make Match starts off with a number of “goal animals” the player needs to get to move on to the next level. For example, to clear the level, the player may need to gather 3 cats, 6 lizards, and 2 pandas. The player needs to have this goal in mind when creating their animal combinations. Players who struggle with planning may spend an unnecessary amount of time creating combinations that will not help them advance to the next level of the game. To practice this skill, players should make sure that they look at their goal before beginning the level, and work on getting one animal goal done at a time before moving on to the next.
