In GemCraft, players take on the role of a wizard who must protect his realm from invading hordes of monsters. Players craft and combine magical gems to fortify their towers against increasingly tougher enemies. As players advance through each level, they will earn skill points that they can use to upgrade their powers, helping them to conquer tougher objectives. There is little violence and no offensive content, but the gameplay can become very challenging as the game advances, so GemCraft is recommended for kids ages 10 and above.

This game is good for kids who need help with:

Organization

Arranging and coordinating materials and activities in order to complete a task.

To be successful in this game, players must coordinate the use of all of their resources in order to survive the multiple waves of enemies in each level. For example, players might build defense towers in corners and employ water trenches to slow the enemy's advance. By building in corners, players can focus their attacks onto a single area. The order in which players assign gems to towers is also important. For example, gems that reduce enemy defenses are best placed at the head of the path to ensure that later gems do greater damage to weakened enemies. The better players use their Organization skills, the better their defenses will be.

Planning

Developing a systematic approach for setting and achieving goals.

Careful placement of towers, gems and blockades is critical to success in GemCraft. Players must prepare for tougher enemies by continually upgrading the gems in their defensive towers. Players can also expand their Mana Pools, which increase their maximum "mana," allowing them to create more powerful gems. By utilizing their available tools thoughtfully, players can survive long enough to destroy hordes of enemies and take down the final, tough "boos" enemy that awaits them at the end.
