Final Fantasy Crystal Kingdom is an MMORPG (Massive Multiplayer Online Role Playing Game) where your character sets out from their home village to collect a mysterious and rare substance known as myrrh. This liquid is used to power the crystal from your hometown that keeps everyone safe and wards off a deadly world-destroying miasma. Players select from four different possible classes of characters and set off on a journey where they will collect items, fight monsters, and defeat larger boss monsters, all while keeping in contact with your family and fellow villagers back home.
Students can play the game on their own or meet up with friends or other players online to fight monsters together in the dungeon setting. The first few levels of the game are free to start but once those are completed, the full version of the game must be purchased.
Because of the large amount of reading involved, this game is not developmentally appropriate for younger students and carries an ESRB rating of T for Teen.
Planning: Problem Solving and Dealing with Obstacles.
As you progress through the world of Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles, you must navigate various features including multiple map locations, monsters with different skill sets, objectives and side-quests, and navigating dungeons. Because of the complexity of the game, students need to have a plan of action for how they will approach these various scenarios. Students without a plan may find themselves lost over what they should be doing or even lose battles because they were not effectively prepared.
Organization: Managing One’s Environment and Personal Possessions.
Inventory management is important in role playing games and Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles is no exception. Students will move through the game collecting various items and their inventory will fill up quickly. Students will have to make decisions about what they keep with them and what they take back to their hometown to place in storage. Because this is a repetitive and time consuming task, students need to focus on their most important items for the task at hand and keep them in order.
