Cribbage With Grandpas is a sweet mobile game where you play cribbage with a grandpa of your own creation. The player can create several different grandpas and then call them up to play a mobile game of cribbage. The player can choose their grandpa’s physical features down to their eyebrows and chin stubble. They can also give them a hat and choose their clothing type, ranging from a shirt with suspenders to a fisherman’s sweater.

After designing their grandpa’s appearance, the player can choose up to three adjectives to describe their grandpa’s personality from a pre-written list. These characteristics will determine how your grandpa acts while you play the game together. You can also choose your grandpa’s level of chattiness and how much they know about the game themselves. These options also affect how your grandpa plays the game against you.

The game of cribbage can then be played until either you or your grandpa wins. If you are unfamiliar with the rules of the game, your grandpa will walk you through the game as you play it.

Cribbage with Grandpas is available for Android and iOS. Because of the math involved in playing the game of cribbage, it might not be developmentally appropriate for children younger than eight.

Cribbage With Grandpas  helps kids practice and improve the following skills:

Working Memory: Recalling and retaining information in our minds while working.

Players need to remember the rules of cribbage while they are actively playing the game. Keeping the combinations you need to score points in your head while playing will allow you to decide what cards you need to hang onto and make sure that you do not lose any points. For players who struggle with Working Memory, choosing a grandpa who is helpful means he will explain the rules of cribbage as you go along, assisting you until you feel like you know the rules well enough to play without help.

Focus: Getting started and then maintaining attention and effort to tasks.

Each game of cribbage is played until one player gets to 121 points. This means that the games require the focus of the player. They will need to stay on track and make sure they are getting all of the best combinations with the cards they have been dealt. Depending on what level of cribbage knowledge they have assigned to their grandpa, they may or may not receive help. If the player chooses a grandpa who knows a lot about the game of cribbage, for example, they may find that they will not point it out if there are extra points the player is missing. For players who struggle with Focus, choosing a more helpful grandpa to start with is easier and can help build up their focusing skills while they are learning the rules of the game.
