Battle Bears Gold players engage in an exciting (and often comical) multiplayer shooter experience with millions of other warriors around the world. The game is not your average action/shooter game – be prepared for wacky weapons, crazy skins, 8 different classes, and unconventional equipment. It’s up to the players to decide if they prefer to join a team deathmatch, private arena battle, or a ‘plant the bomb’ mission. Each mission provides players with gas cans and joules, which are used to upgrade weapons and gear. As an added bonus, the soundtrack is just killer. Due to mild profanity, crude humor, and cartoon violence, Battle Bears Gold is recommended for older players, ages nine and up.

THIS GAME IS GOOD FOR KIDS WHO NEED HELP WITH:

Focus

Getting started and then maintaining attention and effort to tasks.

Battle Bears Gold - Educational Game Review image 1When beginning the game, mastering the movement and controls is a bit tricky. Not only are both hands used at the same time, but the player's right hand performs 3 seperate functions, which requires a lot of attention. Once the player has entered a battle, she is placed on a team (red or blue) and right away has to scan the arena and keep her eyes peeled for her opponents. They aren't any places to hide really so always being on guard will help her to avoid attacks and help her team win. Perhaps the most challenging aspect is dividing attention between using the different controls/actions and also trying to shoot others while staying alive yourself. As in any situation where enemies are trying to harm you, distractions or loose attention can be harmful and even fatal. Instead, solid attention puts the player in the best position to spot every enemy and take them down swiftly. Aiming is also improved with the use Focus skills. Before firing, she needs to take a brief moment to stabilize her movement and center her attention (and crosshair) on the opponent. The more accurately she can shoot the weapon, the lesser of a chance she has to be injured herself as she wont be wasting time reloading mid-attack.

Planning

Developing a systematic approach for setting and achieving goals.

Each battle gives the player the opportunity to earn joules, while gas cans are replenished daily. The joules are the currency that purchases new weapons, skins, equipment, and special items. When creating teams for battle, the game matches players based on rank. So, she must be sure she is upgrading her gear at a similar pace - or quicker - to others within her rank or she will be quite unprepared to go up against the opposing team. It's in her best interest to avoid spending her joules or gas cans on purchases that do not give her an offensive or defensive advantage in the game. Instead, saving her joules until she can buy a more damaging weapon, for example, is a smarter decision than buying a new skin. Planning to save less important purchases for a later time helps her to become more powerful and tactical quicker than the player who does not think ahead to do the same.
