The Little Fox is a runner-style game, with a hexagonal-shaped grid and beautiful graphics. The player controls a fox and must turn it left and right to gather gems, avoid obstacles, and stay on the track. If they fall off the track, the player loses a life. If they successfully complete an entire track, the player unlocks a new “planet” or level. Each level also has goals (collecting a certain number of gems and completing the level in a certain time-frame). There is also a hard mode once the player beats a specific level.

There are in-app games, as well as in-app purchases. The ESRB rated The Little Fox E for Everyone and LW4K stands by this rating.

The Little Fox helps kids practice and improve the following skills:

Self-ControlThe Little Fox

Managing our actions, feelings, and behaviors.

This game is all about quick responses as the player turns left and right in response to the obstacles and track unfolding in front of them. Because of this, The Little Fox provides a great opportunity to practice self-control. The instant decisions needed to decide which way to go on the track make it easy for the player to become impulsive and react without thinking. If they don't control themselves enough to make deliberate decisions, they will end up falling off the track or failing to collect gems. If the player doesn't get the gems, they won't meet the gem-based goal. If they fall off of the track, they will lose a life.

The fast pace of the game also means that it is easy to make the same mistake over and over again. This lends itself to practicing another self-control thinking skill: managing frustration and anger. The more times a player dies in the same location or on the same level, the more their frustration levels and anger will rise. The more this happens, the more likely the player is to fall off the track. This creates an emotional loop and unless the player works to practice their self-control, their skills at the game will get worse and they will lose more lives.

Time Management

The limited size of the track also provides the player a chance to practice keeping pace. If the player doesn't make a decision within a certain amount of time, the fox will run right off the track. The player must mentally keep pace with the speed the fox is running or they will lose and have to start the level over again. If they do a good job keeping pace, the player will be able to not only complete each world they unlock, but be able to complete the gem and speed goals as well.
