Drag n Merge is a numbers-based puzzle game. The goal is to drag and merge together two blocks with the same number. For example, drag a 2 block onto a 2 block and they will merge into a 3. Do this enough times and the player will create a block with the number 20 on it. Once this happens, the 20 block will be removed from the board. The player receives points for every merge, as well as every time they remove a 20 block. Drag n Merge keeps track of the high score, giving the player a goal to shoot for each time they play.

There is also a clock that adds new rows of blocks to the board every time it hits zero. Similar to Tetris, Drag n Merge has limited space on the game board. When the space runs out, the player loses a life. Lose three lives and the game is over.

The game is free to download, although it does come with in-game ads: there are small banner ads across the bottom of the screen and every time the player hits a milestone in the game (the first time they make a 15 or 20 block, when they lose a life, and when the game is over) an ad will play. There is also an in-app purchase available to remove the ads. The ESRB has rated the game E for Everyone. Because of the need to identify numbers up to 20, LW4K recommends Drag n Merge for ages 7 and up.

Drag n Merge helps kids practice and improve the following skills:

FocusDrag n Merge

Getting started and then maintaining attention and effort to tasks.

Drag n Merge is the perfect opportunity for the player to practice their focus skills. There are a large number of blocks on the game board at one time, which requires the player to be able to stay on-task while looking for, as an example, a pair of number 4 blocks to merge together. If they get distracted by all the other blocks on the board, they won't make any matches, their board will fill up, and they will lose a life. However, they also need to be able to switch attention between tasks. If the player only looks for number 4 blocks, he or she will fail to reach the number 20 and be unable to remove blocks from the game board. Once again, this will result in the player losing a life. In addition, Drag n Merge also requires the player to be able to ignore both internal and external distractions. If he or she is unable to do this, the player will lose valuable time for merging blocks, the timer will run down, and the game board will fill up. If that happens, the player loses a life.

Time Management

Being efficient and aware of our use of time and effort.

Drag n Merge has a repetitive timer. Every time the timer runs out, a new row of blocks is added to the game board and the timer begins again. Because of this, Drag n Merge is a great game for practicing keeping pace. The player needs to keep merging blocks at the same speed and in time with the timer in order to keep their game board as clear as possible. If the game board isn't kept clear because the player forgets about the timer, they will lose a life.
