Mr. Jump is a fast-paced, side-scrolling running game. The player controls a blocky, Minecraft-style character as he jumps over spikes and other obstacles. They control the length of jumps by how long the player maintains contact with the screen. In order to win a level, the player must reach the end without dying. The game tracks how many jumps the player takes, how far they make it in the level, and also how many times they die.

An in-app purchase will remove the ads. The game got an E for Everyone. Children as young as 4 could handle the game mechanics and benefit from the cognitive skills practice initiated by playing this game, therefore we stand by this rating.

Mr. Jump helps kids practice and improve the following skills:

Mr. JumpFocus

Getting started and then maintaining attention and effort to tasks.

Because this is such a fast-paced game, Mr. Jump provides a great opportunity to practice sustaining attention on short-term tasks. The player must ignore any internal and external distractions and focus on only the next obstacle or two in front of them. If they do not, they will run right into a spike or off the edge of a cliff, and be unable to finish the level. Without finishing the level, they will be unable to unlock the next level or worlds.

Self-Control

Managing our actions, feelings, and behaviors.

While it is easy to grasp the concept of the game, the speed with which the obstacles come makes it a challenge. This means that the player has the perfect chance to practice managing their anger and frustration. It takes time and patience to complete a level and will most likely include many deaths before it happens. If the player doesn't control their emotions, they may become anxious and time their jumps poorly. The more this happens, the harder the levels will become. If a player wants to be successful and complete the levels--which will, in turn, unlock new levels--then it is necessary to exercise self-control and stay calm.
