Heroes Tactics is a strategy role-playing game (RPG) set in a fantasy world with knights, griffins, and other magical beasts. The player chooses who to take into battle, where to place them in the battle, and which skills and equipment to upgrade. The graphics are a mix of cute cartoon and realistic elements. There is both a story mode and arena mode, as well as different sets of tasks to finish. There are also in-game purchases. The ESRB gave Heroes Tactics an E10+ rating for infrequent/mild cartoon or fantasy violence and infrequent/mild horror/fear themes. We stand by this rating.

Heroes Tactics helps kids practice and improve the following skills:

Heroes TacticsOrganization

Arranging and coordinating materials in order to complete a task.

Heroes Tactics provides the player the opportunity to practice the cognitive skill of organizing places and things. Before each level, the player has to choose which characters to take into battle. They are then given the option to look at a preview of the battlefield. If they do, the player will get a chance to see where the enemies are located and then choose the best placement for their own characters. Taking the time to carefully arrange the board allows the player to raise their chances of earning three stars. The more stars a player earns, the more rewards they receive. Rewards help the player to level up their characters, their equipment, and their skills. If the player doesn't use this thinking skill at the start of each level, they will find that they hit a level where they can't advance and game progress will halt.

Planning

Developing a systematic approach for setting and achieving goals.

Planning is also important in Heroes Tactics. The player has a limited amount of resources (characters, money, and equipment) and they have to choose how best to use them. Before each battle, the player will need to use their problem solving skills in order to determine the best location to place their characters. During each battle the player will need a short-term plan in order to defeat the enemies. In order to complete tasks and level up characters, the player will need to have a long-term plan that guides their decisions on how to spend money and use equipment. Each player can have their own approach to making their plans, whether it is focusing on leveling up characters or completing tasks or even the battle arena, but a plan is the best way to ensure that they reach their goals and are successful in the game overall.
