Oz Broken Kingdom is a card battle/adventure game based in the land of Oz. The player begins the game as Ophelia and eventually meets familiar Oz characters (such as Tin Man and Scarecrow) to their party. The card based aspect of the game is easy to grasp and blends smoothly with the combat side of the game, leading to a very immersive version of the typical card battling game. The graphics are beautiful and vivid, but the game does feature frequent/intense cartoon or fantasy violence. The game received a T for Teen rating because of this and we stand by this rating.

Oz Broken Kingdom helps kids practice and improve the following skills:

Planning

Developing a systematic approach for setting and achieving goals.

Oz Broken KingdomAs with most other card battling games, in Oz Broken Kingdom the player is given a limited amount of magic to spend each round and must plan out which card or cards they want to play. They can spend all their magic on the current round or save part of it for the next round in order to play an even bigger card. Failing to make strategically planned choices like this is easily the difference between one star or three stars in a level, or even failing the level all together. Oz Broken Kingdom also has the player level up their cards, characters, and equipment with a limited supply of essence (which functions like money in this game). The better a plan the player has -- and the better they do sticking to it -- the more effective their cards will be. A lack of a plan for how to spend essence will result in unbalanced cards and failure in both the story mode and the battle arena.

Time Management

Being efficient and aware of our use of time and effort.

Time management is another cognitive thinking skill that comes into play in Oz Broken Kingdom. First, each round is timed. The player must make their decisions of who to attack and which card(s) to attack with before the time is over or they will loose their turn. Second, the player is given a certain amount of energy to spend on levels (either in story mode or in the battle arena). While the energy does refill over time, the player must still choose where to spend the energy in order to have the most impact. Sometimes this will mean a side quest or a few rounds in the battle arena in order to get more treasure and cards. Sometimes this will mean the story mode. Either way, if they don't pay attention to their energy level, the player will end up without energy and find that they haven't really advanced in the game all that much that day.
