Marvel’s Avengers is a third person action adventure game where you play as Kamala Khan, aka Miss Marvel. At the beginning of the game, Kamala goes to A-Day, a celebration for the Avengers. It is here that events are set into motion that lead to her acquiring superpowers. This day is also the setting for a terrorist attack that is blamed on the Avengers. The superhero group steps away from their role as protector, leaving it to a new organization called A. I.M. Within a few years, it becomes clear that this organization is bent on world domination. Kamala must seek out the Avengers and reunite with them to take on A.I.M. and save the world once again.
The game features several modes including single player story mode and several multiplayer modes. The player needs to use their powers to chain together attack, abilities, dodges, and skills to defeat enemies. The game also features a skill tree that allows players to level up their character’s abilities, in addition to acquiring cool new costumes and upgrades. The game features a base set of Avengers, while new members and stories can be added with DLC.
Working Memory: Recalling and retaining information in our minds while working.
In order to successfully chain combinations of moves and win fights within the game, the player needs to use their working memory skills to remember what the buttons on the controller do in the middle of a fight. For players who struggle with working memory, remembering button combinations in the middle of a fight could be difficult, leading the fight to go poorly. Players who struggle with this should set the game to a difficulty setting that feels comfortable to them and allows them to practice the move combos until they feel more comfortable with their execution.
Planning: Developing a systematic approach for setting and achieving goals.
In order to gain new abilities for your superheroes, the player needs to access the skill tree and use it to acquire various skills. This is done by spending skill points which are earned when the character levels up. Skill points are finite so the player needs to plan out which abilities they want their characters to learn. Because they cannot learn everything all at once, the player needs to think about which skills will allow them to perform well in battle. For players who struggle with planning, the skill tree may seem overwhelming. Taking it slow and reading through the options before spending the skill points is a good way to process all options before making a decision.
