Planet Quest is a rhythm game set in outer space. The player controls an alien in a ufo, floating above a planet. Music with a heavy beat is playing and every so often (but with rhythm and to the beat of the music) a person in a funny costume comes out of the planet.
They move closer to where the alien is hovering and, when they are directly underneath the ufo, the player taps the screen and the alien zaps up the people. If the player has timed it perfectly, the whole person will beam up. If they are close but not perfect, the person’s costume will beam up and the person inside will stay on the planet.
The player will receive points for beaming up part or all of each person on the planet. They will lose hearts for missing completely. The further the player gets in the songs, the more complicated the rhythms get. The goal is to get a high score.
Planet Quest has in-game ads and purchases. The ESRB rated it E for Everyone and LW4K stands by this rating.
Planet Quest helps kids practice and improve the following skills:
Getting started and then maintaining attention and effort to tasks.
This game relies solely on the use of rhythm and music to engage the player. This means that the player absolutely must maintain focus, ignoring external and internal distractions completely. If they do not, the player will easily miss or lose track of the beat, Miss their timing, and fail to “beam up” one or more characters. When this happens, they will lose a heart and, after losing enough hearts, have to start over.
Being efficient and aware of our use of time and effort
This game also gives the player the chance to practice keeping pace. To be successful at this game, the player must follow along with the rhythm—or pace—that the music is setting. They are not able to take a break or decide when they want to beam up the characters. The player must follow the music. If they do not, they will miss characters, lose hearts, and have to start the game over again.
