Tiny Crossword is an Apple Arcade game where the player completes crossword puzzles in order to move along through various countries on a map. The clues for each puzzle can be given horizontally or vertically, and the player can switch between different areas of the puzzle to fill in answers in the order they want. Words can be verbs, proper nouns, abbreviations, and slang. As the player completes puzzles, they gain wisdom stars which are displayed on the screen as you progress through the levels.
Additional boosters for the crossword puzzles are See Wrong, which highlights wrong letters in red in order to see where you are making a mistake in your crossword puzzle entry. Show Word places at least one answer on the board for you to work from. Plus Five Letters adds five random letters to the board to allow you to see some clues as you begin the puzzle.
Daily Challenges present more difficult and complex puzzles for the player to try and solve.
Tiny Crossword is currently available for free with a subscription to Apple Arcade.
Working Memory: Recalling and retaining information in our minds while working.
When completing a crossword puzzle, the player needs to use their working memory skills to successfully remember the spelling of the word while completing the action of typing it out into the boxes on the screen. Players also have to use their working memory to read the clue and then recall the answer while typing at the same time. For players who struggle with working memory, using some of the help options like See Wrong can help guide them to the correct answer or provide some context clues for a portion of the puzzle that is proving to be difficult.
Flexibility: Adapting and adjusting to changing conditions and expectations.
Every crossword puzzle in Tiny Crossword is different and players need to use their flexibility skills to adapt to the changing circumstances of each puzzle. For example, the earlier puzzles in the game will be short and simple but as you move up in levels, they will become progressively harder and the clues will not be as straightforward and simple as they were before. Players who struggle with flexibility can use some of the help features of the game to aid them if they are stuck but trying to complete the puzzles without them is a great way to practice flexibility in a low-stakes, low stress environment.
