The far-fetched premise of Paladog has players taking on the role of a K-9 knight striving to protect his kingdom of Critterland from evil invading forces. As Paladog, players travel through 2D side-scrolling levels, fighting enemies and summoning allies in an effort to repel enemies and protect the kingdom. To attack, Paladog can fire off different kinds of magic using various wands, but doing so depletes “mana,” which slowly regenerates over time. Food also regenerates over time, and is used to summon allies, with more powerful allies requiring more food to summon. Paladog features cartoon violence, but it is very unrealistic in nature. However, some versions of the game do feature an option to include blood during battle, but this feature can easily be declined when starting the game. Due to the game’s moderate violence and light reading requirements, Paladog is recommended to players ages 10 and up.

THIS GAME IS GOOD FOR KIDS WHO NEED HELP WITH:

Focus:

Arranging and coordinating materials in order to complete a task.

Multiple factors must be taken into account while playing, and monitored simultaneously throughout the duration of battle. Players will need to divide their attention amongst them, integrating all the components available during battle in order to beat the enemy. Some components include monitoring food levels so that troops could be summoned, monitoring the overall health of self and of enemies (and individual health), and monitoring “mana” level necessary to do magic spells. Failure to keep track of even just one of these elements can spell defeat.

Working Memory:

Recalling and retaining information in their minds while working.

In Paladog, players must be able to quickly recall the correct commands, special powers and options to utilize in specific situations to defeat upcoming enemies. If players choose the wrong option, then Paladog and his troops will lose health, and if they're defeated, the level will restart. Therefore players need to remember which weapons and spells to utilize to best defeat the different enemies that attack. In particularly tough levels, players can memorize how the battle progresses, as enemies come in various waves. By memorizing this information and quickly recalling it in the game, players will be able to strengthen their Working Memory skills and be more successful in Paladog.
