One Hand Clapping is a platforming game where the player controls a cute purple creature through a series of obstacles and puzzles. The twist with this game is that other than some basic movement controls, your voice is what guides this character through the environment. Whether you sing fast, slow, high pitched or low pitched directly affects what occurs on screen. The player sings directly into their device’s microphone and this performs a variety of actions on-screen, ranging from moving clock hands to lifting boxes to making bridges out of magical purple and yellow sand. While your character moves through six unique environments, the player will need to try a variety of different vocal approaches to solve the puzzles and finish the game.

One Hand Clapping helps kids practice and improve the following skills:

Flexibility: Trying something new.

This game is a great way for players to practice their flexibility skills and try something new. Within the six different environments of the game, the player will need to adjust their voice’s pacing, rhythm and pitch in order to solve puzzles and move on to the next area in the game. However, players can sing whatever song they want or even just hum if they want. By being flexible and trying new songs or new ways of singing, you can get better at the game while also building up your confidence in the different types of singing you need for the game.

Self-Awareness: Understanding our own actions, thoughts and feelings.

Singing out loud can be very scary and intimidating for some. This game is a great way to build confidence in your own voice because you are using it as a tool to help the main character of the game. Because you are singing to help the character solve puzzles, avoid enemies, or even make flowers bloom, the stakes are much lower and can allow the player to slowly build up their confidence by singing out loud over time. The fun characters and settings in the game can also help the player use their confidence as a means to see more of the environment. And the game has no way to “lose” so it is a perfect way to practice this skill without too much stress about winning or failing.
