Kiko’s Thinking Time is an app where children can strengthen core EF Skills: Working Memory, Focus, Flexibility, Spatial Reasoning, and Reasoning. Parents set the app up with the desired skills and games are made available to practice these skills.
Students follow Kiko, a cute red fox, around a map where they have the chance to practice each skill using a fun and colorful game. Parents can also access articles about the science behind the creation of the app and check their child’s progress against the average child of that age.
Working Memory: Recalling and retaining information in our minds while working.
Kiko’s Thinking Time has several games where students are given information for a brief period of time and then are asked to replicate it. For example, students are asked to remember different types of sushi rolls to successfully complete a restaurant order. These types of activities strengthen working memory skills in a low stakes environment.
Focus: Getting started and then maintaining attention and effort to tasks.
Kiko’s Thinking Time has games that are especially geared towards enhancing focus in children. They will be shown an object and asked to choose a similar object from a list, requiring them to utilize their focusing skills in order to move to the next level. For example, students play a game where they are on a farm and trying to find the animal that is different among many similar pairs. If they do not focus they may click on the wrong animal and will need to try again.
