Heroes of Destiny puts players in charge of a team of fantastic heroes on a quest for justice, loot, and glory. Players will lead their team in combat, discover rare items and loot, and upgrade abilities and gear in order to defeat increasingly difficult enemies. The game revolves around players traversing a game map, making stops in individual towns other key locations to complete special quests and objectives. Players participate in live combat, ordering their team members where and how to attack or defend. Heroes come equipped with their own special gear and abilities which players must understand and utilize in order to defeat enemies and more difficult bosses. Each hero gains experience from combat and completing objectives, increasing their strength and potency of abilities as they level up when combined with gear upgrades. Quests are available in four difficulty modes which reward increasingly powerful items upon completion. Much of the game’s characters, items, and abilities are free to use, however, there is large variety of items and upgrades available as in-app purchases. Heroes of Destiny contains very mild violence and may be too complex and difficult for some younger children. This game is appropriate for any player ages 7 and up.
Adapting and adjusting to changing conditions and expectations.
As with most games in the RPG genre, players must exercise the Flexibility thinking skill in a number of ways in order to be successful. In combat, players must be able to create and adapt strategies on the fly depending on the makeup of their part versus the makeup of enemies. For example, players will utilize different strategies when fighting magic casters versus enemies who rely on armor and melee attacks. In addition, players are tasked with controlling numerous heroes at the same time, maximizing effectiveness by managing each character's individual strengths, weaknesses, and abilities based on any given scenario. Heroes of Destiny requires players to develop and implement strategies quickly and effectively, while facing a variety of enemies and scenarios.
Arranging and coordinating materials in order to complete a task.
Players are tasked with keeping track of and organizing a multitude of gear, items, and characters. Whether keeping track of items in their inventory, or strategically arranging their heroes during combat, players must be able to organize their resources in order to most effectively meet new and increasingly difficult challenges. While the inventory is mainly arranged for players by the type of item, players must make decisions about what items to carry with them, which items to equip, and which items can be sold for profit to be used on other useful items. During combat, players must organize their team to meet the demands of each new challenge. For example, keeping melee fighters away from "healer" characters, requires players to arrange their strongest and most armored heroes in between enemies and weaker heroes. Heroes of Destiny requires players to exercise the organization thinking skill in order to be use resources most effectively at completing objectives and defeating enemies.
Players must determine their major goals and priorities and develop a strategy to achieve these goals. Planning includes saving resources for upgrades, determining which quests to pursue, or what party members might be most useful for success in combat. In addition, completing the same quest on a higher difficulty mode will reward players with greater rewards; however, completing higher difficulty modes requires a greater degree of planning. Players must improve their party by making upgrades and gaining levels before advancing to more challenging modes, as well increase effectiveness and efficiency in combat.
