Diamond Dash - Educational Game Review image 1
Game Type: ESRB Rating: N/A Platform/Console: , , , LWK Recommended Age: 0–5 Thinking Skills Used: ,

Diamond Dash is a puzzle game of jewel matching intensity, aided by magic powers. Players have a short sixty seconds to make as many matches of three or more diamonds as possible. Speedy, consecutive matches earn points faster than delayed matches and also serve to unlock special bonuses. Players can earn mega points by using magical powers, such as ‘Color Splash’ and ‘Mystic Bomb.’ The fun doesn’t stop there – players can challenge their friends in a weekly tournament, competing to see who can earn the highest score. Due to the ease of gameplay and lack of mature content, this game is recommended for players as young as five years old.

THIS GAME IS GOOD FOR KIDS WHO NEED HELP WITH:

Self-Control

Managing our actions, feelings, and behaviors.photo-1

In the game points are multiplied and level bonuses, such as magic diamonds and 'Magic Fire,' are unlocked by quick and accurate matches. Although it's important to be quick when making matches, rushing can be detrimental. The multiplier goes down for every inaccurate tap of the screen, making Self-Control skills an important aspect of gameplay success. Inaccurate taps are often a result of players scrambling to make matches quickly one after another, but this behavior makes it so that they don't reach the bonuses as quickly, or even at all. For example, special magic diamonds only appear after 11 consecutive, speedy, and accurate matches; one wrong move and the cycle must begin again. Players who can exercise Self-Controls skills to help them resist rushing to make matches will find themselves with more bonuses and higher scores than those who make overly hurried taps.

Time Management

Being efficient and aware of our use of time and effort.

Players only have 60 seconds in each level to earn as many points as they can, making intelligent use of time a crucial element of Diamond Dash. There is a delicate balance between quick taps and smart taps that must be achieved through the use of Time Management skills. It's important to not take too much time seeking out accurate matches or matches of more than 3 diamonds, but it's just as equally significant to not blindly tap all over the screen in hopes of making quicker matches. Additionally, not paying attention to the remaining time can cost players precious magic diamonds if they fail to tap on them before the clock runs out. This can happen often as diamonds frequently appear with only a few seconds left in the round.
