Players can change their minions, choosing from some of the more memorable characters from the movie. During races in which players run a particularly long distance, they have the chance to revive themselves after a crash with tokens they purchase from the Despicable Me: Minion Rush store. Adapting and adjusting to changing conditions and expectations, especially adapting to obstacles.
Gameplay moves very quickly, as the setting, obstacles and even camera perspective are constantly subject to change. Players must demonstrate adaptive thinking strategies in order to achieve high scores. Obstacles like rockets and mines stand in the way, forcing players to move their minions left or right, with speed and dexterity. Players must jump over low lying impediments, and roll under electric current obstructions. Coordinating these quick hand-eye type movement requires players to think on their feet, transitioning between various types of evasive methods. The different camera angles also introduce scenarios in which players exercise their Flexibility thinking skills. One minions hit springs, they are propelled into the air. Once they land on higher ground, the perspective changes from bird's eye view to a side scroller. Changes as simple as camera angle can disrupt the players' rhythm, as they are always adapting to new situations.
Getting started and then maintaining attention and effort to tasks, especially shifting attention.
Players of Despicable Me: Minion Rush should be concerned with two things: meeting game goals and achieving high scores. Luckily the two go hand in had. In order to score better, players need larger multipliers. Players with multipliers of x10 will a much higher score than a player with x3, as points are accumulated much quicker. It's important for players to embrace the a idea of goal directed persistence -- a tenant of the Focus thinking skill. Meeting each specific game goal will help fill the "multiplier meter." Each time it is filled, players will have a higher multiplier, allowing them to achieve scores that once might not have been possible. And because the game requires such close attention to detail, it is a good opportunity for players who struggle with keen concentration to get extra practice. Averting the eyes for even a second will likely result in a crash.
