Team Umizoomi Math: Zoom into Numbers lets the player help their favorite Team Umizoomi characters while learning math. Team Umizoomi is an educational, math-based children’s show on Nick Jr, featuring two children (Milly and Geo) and a robot (Bot) who use their Umi Car to patrol Umi City and save children using math skills. The game allows children to become part of the fun and includes the following mini-games: Toy Store, Number Bubbles, Race Around Umi City, Up! Up! And Balloons!, and Rolling Toy Parade.

When the player completes a round in a game, they receive a badge. After they have 8 badges from the same game, they receive a trophy. Finally, when they have received all the badges and trophies for all the games, they will receive the Key to Umi City. That in turn will cause the Shape Bandit to steal the key and the player will then have to find the Shape Bandit to earn the key back. Any time the player is having trouble, hints will also appear on screen. Team Umizoomi Math: Zoom into Numbers is rated E for Everyone, and LW4K recommends it for children ages 4-6.

Team Umizoomi Math: Zoom into Numbers helps kids practice and improve the following skills:

Getting started and then maintaining attention and effort to tasks.

Each of the games in Zoom into Numbers is broken up into smaller chunks. Toy Store Counting, for example,  asks the player to count three different sets of toys by touching them. Each set of toys, however, is clearly separate from the others. This means the player gets a great chance to practice sustaining attention on short-term tasks--one set of toys at a time. In Race Around Umi City, the player must choose which side of the street to drive on in order to go under a numbered sign. In this game, there is a long stretch of empty road, followed by a member of Team Umizoomi saying a number, and then a pair of road signs appearing over the road. The player needs to stay focused on the number that was said and the two signs in front of them so they maneuver under the proper sign.

Working Memory

Recalling and retaining information in our minds while working.

This game provides lots of opportunities to practice following directions, a skill that requires working memory. Each segment of each game includes an instruction for the player to follow. The task might be to touch each toy to count it or dragging the toys into the correct order from the smallest to largest number. All the games require the player to listen, remember, and then follow the directions given.

Math

All the mini-games within this game are math based games.  These games provide practice in multiple math skills, including basic understanding of numbers and basic computation. Toy Store is a counting game where the player touches a toy and Bot counts for them. Number Bubbles is a number identification game where the player spins a spinner to release a number of gumboils. The Umizoomi team then blows bubbles with numbers on them. Finally, the player must pop the bubbles with a specific number on them. Race Around Umi City is a number comparison game where the player drives the Umizoomi car along a road with various overhead signs. Each sign has a number and the player drives under the sign that matches the number Bot calls out. Up! Up! And Balloons! is an addition/subtraction game where the player must complete simple math problems to provide the right number of balloons to help Bot float to the top of a building and then gently land on the ground. Rolling Toy Parade is a number line game. The player receives a group of rolling toys arranged in a line, with numbers above them. The player must arrange them from the smallest to the largest number.
