In Uncharted 3, players take on the role of Nathan Drake, a treasure hunter searching for the “Atlantis of the Sands.” Retracing the path of the famed explorer, Sir Francis Drake, players explore exotic locations from Syrian temples to decaying European castles, using ancient artifacts to solve puzzles. Gameplay revolves around Nathan’s impressive climbing skills, with players scaling structures and making daring leaps to survive. Players battle enemies using hand-to-hand combat and cover-and-shoot gunplay, allowing them to use the environment to their advantage. With a heavy focus on guns, strong launguage, and mild animated blood, the game is only recommended for players ages 13 and up.
Adapting and adjusting to changing conditions and expectations.
Enemies in this game are quite smart and will quickly react to the player's position, surrounding Drake if they can. This mean players need to stay on the move in order to adapt to the enemy. There are many different enemy types, like snipers and heavily-armored troops, requiring players to employ various strategies and use different weapons to defeat their opponents. If they play too rigidly -- like staying in one spot or failing to utilize the different weapons at their disposal -- players will likely be overwhelmed in the game's tougher battles.
Developing a systematic approach for setting and achieving goals.
Many battles will take several attempts, and some are made up of multiple "waves" of enemy attacks. It may take several replays to win, but doing so allows the player to sequence battles into manageable segments. This could mean remaining behind cover at the start, and then running to a new spot to pick up another weapon or gain a new position. Players that don't sequence out the tougher battles will have trouble creating a strategy to win, as many require multiple steps to succeed.
Getting started and then maintaining attention and effort to tasks.
Scaling structures is an integral part of the game, tasking players with leaping off ledges and grabbing onto even the smallest outcrops on buildings and other structures. This requires close attention to the layout of each level in order to find small spots for Drake to grab and climb.
Furthermore, the game is inundated with puzzles, many requiring players to refer to Drake's notebook for help. The notebook contains clues to help players solve puzzles and unlock the path to the end of the level.
