Nightmares don’t always have to be scary — at least that’s what the developers from Ogre Academy Math like to believe. In fact, they see nightmares and dreams as a learning opportunity. The math game takes place in they player controlled avatar’s dream. In the dream, ogres, instead of students, fill the classroom. Players are given a series of multiplication, division, addition, and subtraction problems to solve. Each time they answer correctly, the ogres are fed candy (neatly wrapped bon bons) and kept at bay. Buy when players give the wrong answer, an ogre appears under the avatar’s bed. However, if the player answers the next question correctly, the ogre retreats. In the event that players provide 10 wrong answers in a row, (the questions do get more difficult) the game is essentially over, as the ogres carry the avatar away from a peaceful slumber. Ogre Academy Math is a playful game, with engaging animation, with innovative child-centric concept. It’s suitable for children ages 6 to 10, as the questions do not vary all that much in difficulty.

Any time players have to answer a series of questions, they activate the flexibility thinking skill. In Ogre Academy Math, players must adapt to the variety of numbers and functions as each new question gets introduced. Sometimes, switching from addition to division can cause players to pause or hesitate, then hastily give an incorrect answer. Players have to look closely at the questions, and adjust their mental math strategies to meet the task at hand. In addition, when they inevitable get an answer wrong, players have to rebound quickly to keep the ogres from getting under the bed. That means providing a correct solution to the next question. Players have to work to avoid compounding their mistakes. They are forced to learn from the mistakes that led them to a wrong answer very quickly in order to prevent ogres from invading the avatar's bedroom.
There are many different tricks players can use to solve problem more efficiently and accurately. Instead of counting on fingers or using a pen and pad, player should utilize applicable strategies to make problem solving more fun. Especially with multiplication, shortcuts are very helpful -- and they are usually taught in the classroom. Players must recall these strategies like rounding numbers to make them easier to compute mentally, then adding or subtracting the difference from the rounded product. Some questions are repeated in Ogre Academy Math, making it essential for players to not only learn from their mistakes, but correct the thought patterns that led them to wrong answers. With Ogre Academy Math, it's all about using prior knowledge to maximize efficiency and learning how to avoid repetitive incorrect answers.
