Workflowy is an organizational note-taking app, in which users can take bullet point notes on an infinitely expanding page. The app can work well within the classroom setting, as a supplement to, or replacement of handwritten notes. While there is no option for creating a new page, which in theory would make the content seem less disorganized and scattered, a search bar makes finding notes very easy. Users have 500 free notes per month, and upon exceeding the limit, will be prompted to sign up for Workflowy’s service. All content stored on the app are synced to Workflowy’s web page, allowing users to access and edit their notes anywhere. The app is very straight forward, and its utilization is best suited for children ages 8 years and older.
Arranging and coordinating materials in order to complete a task.
While Workflowy may lack some of the more sophisticated functionality of the more versatile productivity-based note-taking apps, it still serves as a great tool for quickly breaking down and deconstructing information into subjects or topics.
Users are best served to try to keep sentences short, as the app uses bullet points to break up information. Notes are listed top to bottom, starting out general and becoming more specific. Information with increased specificity can be indented to the right margin, helping users logically flesh out ideas. It is organizational in the sense that the app works to list bullet points in a way that makes the topic sentence or statement reach its logical conclusion. Each bullet point can have an infinite amount of subcategories, allowing users to maximize their control over organizing information, without it appearing cluttered or out of place on the page.
Developing a systematic approach for setting and achieving goals.
Workflowy can help to make the process of planning out tasks and event easier. In terms of planning strategies, Workflowy is probably best used as a list - ideal for making trips to the supermarket, keeping track of assignments, or a planning what to bring on a vacation. Users can jot down ideas directly on their lists, helping them prepare ideas and materials ahead of time. All content from Workflowy can be edited and accessed remotely, affording users the opportunity to use the app via desktops, laptops, and mobile devices. The app can also be used like a checklist or daily planner, where users can cross out activities that they complete throughout the day, keeping them up to date with their schedule.
