Animal Crossing: Wild World is a simulation game that tasks players with maintaining a town and household. There is no real way to “beat” the game, giving players complete freedom to choose their own goals. Players can do anything from upgrading their house, to searching for every type of fossil, fish, and bug in town, to making friends with all of their neighbors. It’s all up to the player! The game has inoffensive content and easy controls, but due to the heavy amount of reading involved, it is recommended for players ages 8 and up.
Developing a systematic approach for setting and achieving goals. Improving long-term planning.
Animal Crossing: Wild World is especially good for kids who have trouble setting specific goals, as the game requires players to set small, successive tasks to do well. For example, if players would like to obtain the Golden Watering Can, they must first purchase a watering can, an axe, and a shovel. Next, they must plant or chop down trees so that the town has a well-distributed amount of green space. Then they must purchase as many seeds as they can and start planting flowers everywhere. The entire process could take anywhere from a few days to several months. Once the town receives a perfect rating from its inhabitants, players must keep the town in excellent condition for sixteen days with daily weeding, watering and other maintenance. Only then will the town hall award players the Golden Watering Can for their efforts.
