Splatoon 3 is a 3rd person shooting game where the player is an evolved form of a squid or octopus known as Inklings or Octolings. In the game, you can play competitive multiplayer or work your way through a single player storyline.

The player has access to a variety of weapons which they use to shoot out colored ink. This ink covers the ground but can also be used to “splat” enemies from the opposing team. Players can complete in several different types of multiplayer games, including Turf Wars (a race to see who can cover the most ground in their team’s ink color), Anarchy (where your ranking is put on the line in a series of multiplayer games), and Salmon Runs (where you work with a team of four to battle mutated salmon to harvest their golden eggs.)

As the player makes their way through the game, they can earn money and tickets which can be used to purchase items such as weapons, new clothing, items for their lockers, and food and drink which can be used to raise experience or bestow status effects for the next battle.

Splatoon 3 also features a card game called Tableturf Battle, where opponents play different cards in an attempt to “ink” as much turf on the battlefield as possible by using cards of different shapes and rarities.

Splatoon 3 is rated E 10+ for Cartoon Violence. It is available on the Nintendo Switch.

Splatoon 3  helps kids practice and improve the following skills:

Flexibility: Trying something new.

There are many different ways that players can practice their flexibility skills and try something new in Splatoon 3. There are many different types of weapons all with their own pros and cons as well as outfits that are customizable with different abilities. There are different modes to play in, and a card game to try out when combat is feeling too overwhelming.

Players also need to use their flexibility skills when assessing their objectives in a battle and adapting to changing circumstances. Players need to be willing to look at what is currently going on on the battlefield rather than using the same tricks they did before just because they worked in previous rounds.

Planning: Developing a systematic approach for setting and achieving goals.

In Splatoon 3, there are many opportunities for players to practice their planning skills. When customizing gear such as weapons and clothing, the player needs to think about what kinds of skills they would like to enhance as well as what their strengths and weaknesses are in the game. When looking at a map at the beginning of the battle, the player needs to see what their plan of attack is in a relatively quick time frame because everything is happening in real time.
