School Buddy is a school planner on your mobile device. It allows the user to keep track of their classes, their teachers’ names, and the rooms their classes are in. Users can also keep track of assignments they need to complete, and then assign grades to them when they have been returned. The app will then show the user what grade they currently have for each class as a percentage.
When the user opens the app, they can simply click on the plus icon in the upper right hand corner to add a class, an assignment, or a grade. They type in the name and any relevant information about what they are entering. For example, if the user is entering “Study for History Test” into their History Class tab, they can also add notes like “Chapters 1 and 2” to provide further information about what needs to be done.
School Buddy is free to use but some features require the purchase of the app’s Pro version. It is available now on iOS.
Planning: Developing a systematic approach for setting and achieving goals.
Having a daily planner where you can write out all of your assignments and upcoming quizzes and tests can help children begin to strengthen their planning skills. If everything they need to accomplish for school is written out in an easy to read format, it is more likely that they will remember to study, to practice, or to read what they need to in order to succeed with their assignments. For students who struggle with planning, starting off by just adding the to-do parts of the app rather than follow up with complete assignments may be a way to introduce them to the concept of the app until they are more comfortable with adding more on to their class tabs.
Organization: Arranging and coordinating materials in order to complete a task.
School projects often require that students have their materials at the ready. This includes books, notebooks, writing supplies, art materials, instruments, etc. If the student struggles with organization, they might be constantly forgetting the things they need to complete their assignments on time. Study Buddy’s notes feature allows the user to enter specific notes about their assignments, which can help reinforce organizational skills. For example, if a student enters that they have a French presentation next week, they can add in the notes that they need to bring their notecards and their presentation board to class the day before. The student then needs to simply click on the assignment to see what materials they need.
