Letter Soup is a game where you are creating words out of random letters in a bowl of alphabet soup. The game starts with smaller 2 to 3 letter words and increases in complexity as you continue to move through each level. The levels are represented by different types of cafes, so you will move from American to Italian to Chinese cuisine as you go along creating new words.
To create a word, you touch the first letter with your finger and drag it around the bowl of soup connecting the letters until you have spelled out the word. It will then appear in a box above the bowl of soup. If you get stuck, you can use a hint which will provide the first letter of a word you need to find.
Letter Soup is a great way for young children to practice spelling words but they may need assistance with longer spellings and more complex words.
Flexibility: Adapting and adjusting to changing conditions and expectations.
Because each level and each bowl of soup is different, players need to be flexible to come up with the letter combinations necessary to make the required words. If they are stuck, players can “stir” the soup by clicking on the bowl of soup. This will rearrange the letters so that the player can gain a fresh perspective and hopefully see new combinations of letters. If the player is still struggling, they can use a hint but by being flexible they may be able to see combinations they were not aware of before.
Working Memory: Recalling and retaining information in our minds while working.
In order to find all of the word combinations in each level, the player needs to use their working memory skills to think of the spelling of the word as they drag their finger across the screen and connect the individual letters. Players who struggle with working memory may find that they are unable to come up with all the necessary letter combinations in their head; these players can make a list on paper of all the words they think they can make with the letter combinations.
