Word Cookies is a word-building game where the player takes random combinations of “cookie letters” off of a sheet to build words. The letters can be connected by simply clicking on the first letter of the word you want to create and dragging a line to the other letters to form a connection. The word will appear on a cookie cooling sheet. Combine the available letters into the required amount of words to move on to the next level.
Some in-app purchases available. Because this game requires knowledge of the alphabet and word creation, it may not be developmentally appropriate for younger students who cannot yet read and write.
Flexibility: Coping With Unpredictability.
Students playing Word Cookies will notice that the amount of letters on the cookie sheet as well as their placing is constantly changing. Also, the complexity of the words they will need to create increases as you go through the levels of the game. Students therefore need to be flexible and move with the changing requirements of passing to the next part of the game. If students struggle with flexibility, starting with the lower levels of the game will help them develop this skill and hone it for the more complicated levels.
Working Memory: Remembering and Using Visual Information Efficiently.
In order to create all the word combinations for a particular level, students need to keep the spelling of the word they are trying to create in their mind as they drag the letters together. If a student’s working memory is weak, they can try the modification of writing the words down on a piece of paper beforehand and then spelling out the word in the game.
