Wordscapes Search helps kids practice and improve the following skills:

Flexibility: Adapting and adjusting to changing conditions and expectations. 

Each puzzle in Wordscapes Search presents a new category and a new set of words for the player to find. The puzzles increase in word complexity and size as the player moves up through the levels of the game as well, creating more opportunities for additional words to be located as well. The player needs to be flexible when searching for the designated word categories but also in order to find additional words that can help boost their “brilliance” score. Players who struggle with flexibility may find themselves completing the puzzle without any extra words or needing to use hints to complete the puzzle as it is. Starting with the simpler puzzles and spending more time on them to try and find additional words is a good strategy for these types of players, as it will help them build these skills for when the higher level puzzles present tougher challenges. 

Focus: Getting started and then maintaining attention and effort to tasks. 

The game board of Wordscapes Search can appear overwhelming at first. But if a player uses their focusing skills and concentrates on the goal of finding all the words from the given category, they will be able to successfully move on to the next level. Finding additional words also takes focus as there are no hints as to where they are located on the board. For players who struggle with focus, they may find themselves spending lots of time on one particular puzzle trying to find just the words from the category box. These players may benefit from using hints or other tools purchased with “brilliance” if they really need them. They can also repeat lower level puzzles a few times to practice their focusing skills and really work on finding additional words within the game board.
