In this game, players must guide a shape-shifting character to the star in each level. By running over special tiles, the character changes shape or color, allowing it to pass by gates of similar shape and color. Some gates only demand the character to match in shape, others just in color, while some require that both the character’s color and shape match up. Thus, players must navigate across tiles in a specific order, changing their character’s color and shape several times before reaching the star. Players earn more points the faster they complete the level, allowing them to replay levels for a better score. Shape Switcher is a puzzle game, and as such, does not contain any inappropriate content. Due to the game’s simple gameplay, easy controls and lack of offensive content, it is recommended to players ages 5 and up.

This Game is Good for Kids Who Need Help With:

Focus

Getting started and then maintaining attention and effort to tasks.

Though the goal of each level is clearly displayed, it is still easy to lose sight of the overall strategy needed to reach it. Since multiple gates must be passed, players must focus on their immediate and long-term goals simultaneously. Players may forget what color they need to be by the end of the level (red blob to pass through a red barrier, etc.) if they become too occupied with getting through the intermittent obstacles. Additionally, the puzzles become increasingly harder as the game goes on, demanding an amplified level of attention and concentration.

Planning

Developing a systematic approach for setting and achieving goals.

Players must figure out the correct series of steps in order to pass through each barrier and reach the exit. This requires careful inspection of the level's layout and the locations of each switching station in order to coordinate the right order in which these stations must be used. Without using Planning skills, players will waste time and may end up stuck, as switching into the wrong shape or color sometimes requires players to reset the level. Mapping out a path and figuring out the right sequence needed helps players complete levels with efficiency, resulting in a higher score than if they had wasted time wandering about and figuring it out haphazardly.
