Kitty Love-Way to Look for Love is a visual novel where the player takes on the role of a young girl who works in a flower shop. After a long day, she goes to the local park and, after seeing a series of stray cats, makes a wish to be a cat herself. The twist is that one of those cats was listening and actually grants her wish! Every evening she will now turn into a cat and become human during the day. The way to break this curse? A kiss from her true love. The problem for this girl is that she isn’t dating, let alone deeply in love with someone.
The game progresses as you choose different boys from your day to day life and try to find a true love to break your curse. Decisions you make and dialogue options you choose within the game allow you explore different paths and ultimately see if you can break your cat-based curse.
Kitty Love-Way to Look For Love is available for purchase on the Nintendo Switch but a limited demo is also available.
Focus: Getting started and then maintaining attention and effort to tasks.
Visual novels require a great deal of reading, meaning that the player needs to use their focusing skills to pay attention to the dialogue and what is occurring in the plot. For players who struggle with focusing during reading activities, visual novels can be a way to practice these skills. Because these games tend to have a “comic book” feel to them, there is more interactivity involved with the reading and therefore more motivation to continue to progress with the story. Because the player is making choices as if they were a character in the story, the immersion can lead to reading and focusing on plot points, text, and character development in a much more natural way. The speed at which the text can be displayed is also adjustable, making it easier to adjust to the player's comfort with reading.
Self-Awareness: Understanding our own actions, thoughts and feelings.
Because the player is taking on the role of a character in the story, they have a great opportunity to practice their self-awareness skills and put themselves into the shoes of another person. Characters in visual novels experience the same things that characters in novels do; they have joys, sorrows, and life experiences that the player may have experienced themselves or not. For players who struggle with self-awareness or understanding the emotions of others, visual novels are a way to act these feelings and reactions to them out in a safe, play-based space.
