Katamari Damacy Reroll is an updated version of the beloved rolling game Katamari Damacy. In this game, you play an adorable alien prince whose father, the King of the Cosmos, has inadvertently destroyed all of the stars in the sky. Your job is to recreate these brilliant stars as well as the constellations by rolling up objects using a large knobby ball known as a katamari. The player uses the game controller to move the katamari around the screen. If an object is small enough to be picked up, the katamari will collect it. If it is too large, you will crash into it, potentially losing some of your collected items in the process. With every item you collect, you are working towards growing your katamari’s size. Eventually, you will be  able to roll up bigger and bigger objects, leading to higher scores and more adoration from the King of Cosmos.

The game features levels where the object is to make as big a katamari as possible within the time limit given. Other levels, such as the constellation recreations, ask the play to collect as many of a certain object as possible within the time limit. For example, when recreating Gemini, the player needs to collect as many twins as possible, where for Cancer’s recreation, the player is collecting crabs.

Failing at these levels brings the wrath of the King of Cosmos, forcing the Prince to repeat the level over again. Present boxes can also be found within the levels. These contain gifts such as hats and other accessories for the Prince to wear while he is rolling.

Katamari Damacy Reroll features a single player mode as well as a two player mode. It is available now on multiple platforms.

Katamari Damacy Reroll helps kids practice and improve the following skills:

Focus: Blocking out distractions.

Within each level of the game, the player needs to use their focusing skills to pay attention to the end goal. There is a lot of chaos on screen in the game; there are things that can knock you around, the King talks to you which covers up a part of the screen, and sometimes rolling over certain objects prematurely will end the level before you are ready. The player needs to pay attention to the goal of the level and block out all other distractions. For players who struggle with focus, they can repeat the earlier levels a few extra times until they are comfortable with the feel of the game, the controlling of the katamari, and the amount of chaos the screen contains.

Time Management: Working under pressure.

Almost every level in the game has a time limit. This means that the player has a limited amount of time to roll up their katamari to the required size and beyond. Players need to be able to work under pressure and complete the challenges by rolling up objects and not being bothered by the time ticking down in the upper right hand corner of the screen. For players who struggle with this aspect of time management, starting with the easier levels and playing through them a few times until a level of comfort is established can go a long way to helping the player feel comfortable with the time constraints of the game and what needs to be done to make it through each level. The constellation levels are also much lower stakes, in that they cannot be failed easily. Players can play through the available constellation levels until they are confident enough to move on to more stressful timed levels.
