Evernote is an easy-to-use organizational app available for note taking and archiving. Evernote boasts a streamlined, well-structured interface that allows users to make as many notes as they want (using both text and images), sort these notes into notebooks, and then further organize their content with tags. Finished notes can then be uploaded and shared on platforms like Twitter and Facebook. Evernote also includes Skitch, a program that enables users to edit or annotate any pictures they take. Evernote is a very user-friendly program, but does require some reading and writing skills, and is therefore recommended for children ages 8 and up.

This app is good for kids who need help with:

Organization

Arranging and coordinating materials in order to complete a task. Organizing ideas.

Evernote's most fundamental element is the composition of "notes". This is a brilliant tool for writing to-do lists, marking down homework assignments, posting reminders of important events, and anything else needed to lend structure to a busy life. Best of all, you can file these notes away into separate notebooks and divide them up by tags. For example, you can attach tags like schoolwork, chores, or social to help to keep different activities separate.

Evernote is quite easy to navigate, so creating and checking notes as you go about your day quickly becomes second nature. For example, during a week with a lot of homework, your child could use Evernote as a virtual assignment book, listing all of the materials needed to finish whatever projects she was assigned. Having this information available at her fingertips eliminates the need to lug around physical lists and assignment sheets, simplifying the entire process.

Planning

Developing a systematic approach for setting and achieving goals.

One of the most difficult things about growing up is adapting to the structured schedules that school, and later work, impose upon us. Being well-prepared for each new day becomes a critical practice, one that is reflected in academics, athletics, and social activities. Evernote facilitates an understanding of this important skill and provides the tools necessary to ensure that the user is in the habit of preparing in advance. During a particularly busy week it's easy to let responsibilities and engagements fall by the wayside, but using Evernote to mark down these responsibilities (as well as any important related details), can greatly ease the feeling of being rushed and panicked by a busy schedule. For instance, if your child has a busy day including school, soccer practice, and then a study session at a friend's house, she can make a note the night before reminding her to pack needed books for class as well as her cleats and shinguards for soccer. Then at school, she can check the note again to determine which books and supplies she needs to bring back home to study. Not having to worry about these details on the fly eliminates much of the stress of having a full schedule.

Self-Awareness

Understanding our own actions, thoughts and feelings.

Using Evernote can do a great deal to instill the importance of responsibility and structure in children. Knowing what they need to do on a day-to-day basis can give kids an sense of order and self-actualization, which is vital later in life when they become more autonomous from their parents. Composing notes about their obligations and whatever work they need to complete puts children in the habit of remembering things and getting them done in a timely fashion. It also helps them to more easily partition work, play, and downtime in their own minds. Most importantly, it makes them feel responsible.

This heightened level of organization lends itself to a more acute awareness of others as well. Being conscientious of the plans and engagements they have with friends and family fosters stronger relationships than would be possible for a child less attuned to the structure of her schedule and the ways in which that structure impacted those around her.
