Glympse is a free app that allows users to digitally and safely share their locations. Recipients do not need to have Glympse – as users can send their locations via text message, e-mail, and even through social media sites like Facebook and Twitter. What separates Glympse from Foursquare or “checking in” on Facebook is the app’s ability to track movement, speed, and estimated time of arrival. Users can set a time limit, which when reached, the sharing feature will expire. Though a little invasive, the app can be useful for parents who wish to monitor the locations of their children, as well as for users who need to know the whereabouts of friends or peers when setting up meetings, study groups, or practices. The app’s use is best implemented in children ages 6 and older, as children who are younger would struggle maneuvering through the sometimes confusing interface.

this is a great app for kids who need help with:

Planning

Developing a systematic approach for setting and achieving goals. Improving short-term planning.

imagesUsers who are planning any type of event or social gathering will find Glympse extremely useful. Users can pinpoint the likelihood that stragglers and the chronically late will show up on time, using app's estimated time of arrival feature. The app proves to be a less stressful way to set a time and location for everyone to meet up. Users who are sending Glympse messages (via SMS, email, or through social media) must also think ahead. They must choose the appropriate amount of time that they would like their location to be shared for. Too short of a time frame may cause confusion, while a lengthy interval makes private experiences public. Discretion must be employed when using this app, as it can be prying. But using it to ensure friends, family, and co-workers are running on time, can keep operations running smoothly.

Self-Awareness

Understanding our own actions, thoughts and feelings. Improving social skills.

Because users have the opportunity to share their Glympse locations via Facebook or Twitter, the app works to strengthen Self-Awareness skills, a thinking skill that requires users to appropriately judge their behavior and act responsibly in social situations. Users must consider their audience when posting their location, acknowledging the privacy that will be lost due to a reckless share. Since the app is incorporated into the more popular social media sites, users are invited to comment, like, and share responses and reactions to posts that come directly from the Glympse app.
