Flexibility

Adapting and adjusting to changing conditions and expectations.

Lego City Undercover presents the player with many challenges, puzzles, and obstacles. In order to be successful, the player needs to be willing to try new things and new combinations of things. Early in the game, the player might be able to solve a puzzle by using one tool (such as the crowbar). Later in the game, however, a second tool becomes necessary to unlock a whole new area for them. Similarly, the player may successfully complete one chase challenge by using a police car, but later will be forced to use a bus or find that a motorcycle would be the best option. If the player wants to complete this game to 100% then they will have to be flexible and open to trying new things.

Focus

Getting started and then maintaining attention and effort to tasks.

One of the benefits of such a large open-world game is the opportunity to practice ignoring external distractions. In Lego City Undercover, this happens because there is so much to do and explore. If a player doesn't ignore these external distractions--side quests and hidden areas--then they will not be able to advance the game and earn new vehicles, characters, and tools. To be successful at this game, the player needs to complete the storyline. Once they have done this, and earned at least one character of each tool type, the player can go back and explore all those extras to their hearts desire.

Time Management

Being efficient and aware of our use of time and effort.

Lego City Undercover also provides players the opportunity to practice their time management skills. There are several levels and puzzles that require the player to meet a deadline and beat the clock. There are also times when the player must keep pace with a character or vehicle in the game. In both instances, time management (through ignoring external distractions and taking the most direct route) is critical to success. Until the player successfully uses these thinking skills, they will fail to advance in the game.

Working Memory

Recalling and retaining information in our minds while working.

With a very large world to play in, Lego City Undercover requires the player to use their memory based thinking skills quite often. It is important, first of all, to remember the directions given to Chase. If the player fails to remember what they are doing or wear they are going, they will find themselves lost and unable to advance in the game. It is also important for them to pay attention to the things they are passing by and interacting with. The first time the player sees a place to use the astronaut suit, for example, they may not be able to use it. But later, if the player can remember where they saw it, they will be able to clear the game quicker and easier. If they cannot, they will end up stuck and unable to complete the game.
