Fishy Rush is an adventure game in which the player controlled fish must collect coins, while simultaneously avoiding sharks, blowfish, and many other underwater dangers. Powerups like magnets and coin multipliers will help players travel further distances, ultimately allowing them to achieve a higher score. Using only the mouse or the touch pad to control the fish’s vertical movements, players tap or hold the button to weave in and out of tough mazes and scattered obstacles. Because players can only move up or down, collecting powerups and avoiding enemies takes good timing and precision — elements of both the flexibility and focus thinking skills. Although there are a few instances of mild cartoon violence, we recommend Fishy Rush to children ages 6 and older.
THIS GAME IS GOOD FOR KIDS WHO NEED HELP WITH:
Getting started and then maintaining attention and effort to tasks, especially shifting attention.
Fishy Rush is closely associated with the goal-directed persistence portion of the focus thinking skill. Goal-directed persistence deals with goal setting and achievement. Players have to be conscientious and dedicated to achieve such high levels of focus. Fishy Rush presents players with a goal each time they enter a game. Goals get more difficult to achieve as gameplay progresses. But the level of difficulty is offset by powerups, with tend to last longer with increased strength, since players will likely have collected enough coins to purchase upgrades. Buying the necessary powerups to complete harder challenges incorporates major elements of goal directed persistence.
Adapting and adjusting to changing conditions and expectations, especially adapting to obstacles.
Sidescollers like Fishy Rush are great for practicing the flexibility thinking skill. Blowfish, sharks, laser-shooting fish, and other nautical obstacles litter the sea in a seemingly random fashion. Players are constantly adjust the height of the fish depending on the locations of the seafaring impediments that try to strip players of their health. Health is marked by "hearts," and players start the game with only three -- although additional health can be purchased with in-game currency. By employing evasive maneuvers with a read and react style of play, players will be able to strengthen their flexibility thinking skills during Fishy Rush gameplay.
