Directr is a video app that allows users to shoot, edit, direct a videos. Unlike Vine and Instagram, there is no time limit on each video that restricts the functionality of the app. Directr is impressively useful, as it shoots documentary style footage, best lending itself to short montages, travelogues, and step-by-step guides. Although it can be used to produce longer videos, it may be difficult for some users to manage all their scenes at one. Users are not restricted to the order in which they filmed scenes — they can order and rearrange their shots before they publish the video, turning a series of edits into a cohesive story. Directr offers users to option to liven up their video by adding text and music. Also available are themes that serve as helpful organizational templates for users who are less familiar with the shooting and editing process. With storyboard themes like “foodies,” “travel,” and “fashion,” users will also have the inspiration to create a new video. One video gets published, it is posted (privately or publicly) to a user’s news feed, much like Instagram. Because content for videos cannot always be monitored, Directr is recommended for children ages 10 and older.

Planning

Developing a systematic approach for setting and achieving goals.

Especially when working with the Storyboards, users must film each shot, keeping in mind the bigger picture of a cohesive and complete video. A story can be told many different ways with many different moods. Users should not just what they are shooting, but how they choose to film it. Determining a good rhythm is important, mixing in a variety of close-ups, pans, quick cuts, and longer scenes. Adding music can add to the drama or humor of a particular scene or video. It's important then, that users understand the tone and mood that works best with the storyboard idea before filming. This way, the film will have a continuity that can only be achieved when a vision is met with a logical and fitting step-by-step process. When users think ahead to put the video in the context of their overall vision, they will create a more effective product.

Organization

Arranging and coordinating materials in order to complete a task.

It's important that users demonstrate a strong sense of organization when filming with Directr. Every shot whether 2 seconds long or 2 minutes, can be arranged in a different order. There's no need for users to film their entire project in the order it will appear. Instead they can focus their energy on finding and executing a set of high quality and thematically linked shots. Only after users have captured their footage will the order matter. Each shot can be moved to a different part of the sequence simply by dragging it to a new position. Although users are encouraged to use the Storyboards, which are a set of pre organized scenes and captions, it they really wish to use the app to bolster their organizational skills, then they would be advised to work as much as possible without using the templates. Then users do not have the organizational crutch that the storyboard provides.

Self-Awareness

Understanding our own actions, thoughts and feelings. Improving social skills.

Directr inherently incorporates elements of the self-awareness thinking skill into its design, as it is a social media platform on which users can add friends, as well a liking and commenting on other users' videos. In addition to being a social platform, Directr encourages an introspective approach to filming a video. One of the Storyboard selection is a called "all about me." Using the template users must film some of their favorite things, while including applicable captions and a meaningful music score or song. The goal for users should be to create a video that not only reflects their interests, but also their personality.
