Kirby and the Forgotten Land is a platforming game where Kirby is represented for the first  time in 3D. After the ferocious Beast Pack kidnaps all the land’s Waddle Dees, it is up to Kirby to go rescue them all. To do this, Kirby will need to use his traditional power of inhaling enemies and spitting them out as projectiles, or even absorbing their abilities. In this game there is also a new feature called Mouthful Mode where Kirby can become different objects that can help the player move through the different levels. Kirby can swallow a car and drive into walls that will then crumble. Or he can use the pointy end of a traffic cone to break open boxes containing treasure. Exploring the land, fighting bosses, and solving puzzles will all lead Kirby to the captured Waddle Dees and reveal who is working with the Beast Pack and why they want the Waddle Dees imprisoned.

The game also features different levels of difficulty as well as single or multiplayer local co-op modes.

Kirby and the Forgotten Land is rated E 10+ for some light cartoon violence. It is available exclusively on the Nintendo Switch.

Kirby and the Forgotten Land helps kids practice and improve the following skills:

Flexibility: Adapting and adjusting to changing conditions and expectations.

In order to make it through the different levels of this game, the player needs to be able to use their flexibility skills and use the different objects around them to solve puzzles and defeat enemies. For example, becoming a car might be effective in one area but might not work in another. The player will need to look at their surroundings and determine what the best approach will be based on the environment, not just what has worked in the past. The player also gets to practice flexibility by trying new things. Whether you are picking up new abilities from enemies or transforming into new objects via Mouthful Mode, there are many different ways for the player to try out something they have not done before.

Focus: Getting started and then maintaining attention and effort to tasks.

Focus is an essential skill in the game because the player needs to be able to solve puzzles and pay attention to enemy patterns in order to rescue as many Waddle Dees as possible. Without good focusing skills, players may find that they lose a boss fight several times because they are not sure what type of attacks are going to be coming their way. Focusing on a boss’s movements will allow the player to think more critically about what types of attacks they need to use and how best to avoid taking damage. In the puzzle solving elements of the game, focus is required because the player needs to take notice of their surroundings and figure out where they need to go and which of Kirby’s powers are necessary for getting there.
