Super Monkey Ball Banana Mania is the latest in the long-running Super Monkey Ball franchise. In the game, the player controls a small monkey inside of a sphere and moves them around on the screen with the analog stick. They press a button to jump and the ball can be stopped by pulling back on the analog stick. These controls are used to navigate the monkey through a series of increasingly difficult and complex courses towards a goal. Along the way, the monkey collects bananas, a certain number of which grants the player extra lives. This game features over 300 courses from the franchise’s previous games Super Monkey Ball, Super Monkey Ball 2, and Super Monkey Ball Deluxe.
The game features a story mode, where the evil Dr. Bad-Boon is trying to blow up Jungle Island! The player chooses their monkey and begins to navigate the courses to defeat this boss and get back all of your missing bananas. The game also features multiplayer mini games, where the players are using their monkeys to play through traditional games in a fun way. For example, in Monkey Billiards, you are using the monkey ball to hit other pool balls around on a table.
Flexibility: Adapting and adjusting to changing conditions and expectations.
Each course in this game is different, meaning that the player has a good chance to practice their adaptation skills. Some courses have gaps in them requiring the player to jump, while others have moving ramps, meaning that the player needs to time their rolling to when the ramps line up. Players who struggle with adapting to changing circumstances may find that they often have to play through the levels before they reach the goal. Starting with the earlier levels, the player should experiment with moving their monkey around the course, stopping, and jumping to get the feel for the controls of the game. Then, when the more challenging courses appear, they will be better able to adapt.
Time Management: Working under pressure.
The courses in Super Monkey Ball Banana Mania are timed, meaning that the player needs to reach the goal before the time runs out or they will need to repeat the level over. If the player takes too long to move through the course, the timer will give them a 10 second warning and then the level will need to be replayed. For players who struggle with working under a deadline, this can be a way to practice staying focused when only a limited amount of time is available. Players should start on the easiest levels of the game, familiarize themselves with the controls of the game, and then try to get to the goal as quickly as possible without sacrificing control or focus. It will take some practice, but this game is one of the most entertaining ways to practice this skill!
