Mythic Ocean is an adventure game where you play a character with amnesia at the end of the world. Swimming around in a vast and beautiful ocean, you are tasked with meeting a pantheon of undersea gods and helping them with their problems. How you help them and the advice you give them will directly affect the creation of a new world for better or worse.
Your character interacts with the world by swimming through a beautiful and calming ocean. You begin talking to various creatures, running errands or giving them advice, and piecing together the story that you have forgotten.
Mythic Ocean is rated E for everyone but due to the heavy amount of reading required, younger players may need adult assistance to fully experience the game. It is currently available for purchase on Nintendo Switch, Steam, and XBox One and X Box Series X/S.
Flexibility: Adapting and adjusting to changing conditions and expectations.
A certain amount of flexibility is required to play Mythic Ocean. When dealing with the various gods of the ocean, the player needs to be ready to accept errands given to them, or even to weigh several options when responding to the gods’ questions. For example, if you say the wrong thing, the god can become upset with you and no longer want to talk. But if you say something that makes them happy, they are more likely to take your advice. Adapting to the situation and choosing your dialogue based on the current situation helps players practice flexibility in a game without fail-states. No matter what you choose, the game will still progress. If you are unhappy with what has occurred, you can start over and choose a different path the next time.
Self-Awareness: Caring and connecting emotionally with others.
The gods in Mythic Ocean have big personalities and they love chatting with you. Often, you will be given a choice of questions to ask them or responses to their questions or statements. The player needs to be aware of how the god is feeling and what response would be the best for the current situation. Connecting with the personality type of the god and what they most likely need to hear in any given situation requires the player to consider the outcome of their advice and weigh it against what they might actually want to say to the character.
