OLDTV has a familiar premise: colored words where the color either matches the word (a red colored word that says red) or they don’t (a purple colored word that says red). The player taps the right side of the screen if the color and word match. They tap the left side of the screen if they don’t match. In later levels, the words can be upside down or backwards.

The goal is to tap the screen once for every country in the world, making it all the way around the world to beat the game. There are several pages of achievements that the player earns, as well as CP (or coins). The coins buy bonuses that can be used in the game.

OLDTV has in-game ads and purchases. The ESRB rated it E for Everyone and LW4K stands by this rating. It does come with a seizure warning due to the occasional flashing elements of the game.

This entire game requires the player to go against expectations—where the word and color will match—and force their brain to slow down and be flexible. The colors and words won’t match every time and if the player isn’t actively working to adapt to the change, they will tap the wrong side of the screen. If this happens, their turn is over and they have to start back at the beginning of the world again.

Focus

Getting started and then maintaining attention and effort to tasks.

Because this game is fast-paced (there is a timer) and it’s asking the player to go against their impulses, the player must use their focus skills. They have to ignore internal and external distractions and initiate their task as quickly as possible. If they don’t focus in this way, they will run out of time or accidentally hit the wrong side of the screen.
